Our History
The Central Church of Christ located in Harrisonburg, Virginia, was established in 1956.
Services were initially held in the homes of various members.
When an opportunity became available for the church to hold services in an old vacant funeral home near the Court Square the congregation relocated. They assembled there for services and meetings until the construction of the new facilities at its current location at 822 Country Club Road.
Since 1962, the Central Church of Christ has met at our current location in Harrisonburg, Virginia and has helped to teach, admonish and encourage its members and the community in the ways of the Lord.
The congregation serves the city of Harrisonburg, James Madison University, Massanutten Resort, Rockingham County, and surrounding communities.
As part of the Lord's body established on Pentecost in AD 33, we are a non-denominational congregation following Jesus Christ as our Lord and head of the church. We believe each congregation of the Lord's church is autonomous or self governing, just as they were in apostolic times.
We accept the inspired, revealed Word of God as our only authority in faith and practice. We love all people and wish to meet everyone from the community and we welcome visitors to the area with open arms.
What makes the Lord's Church different is that you can actually find our name in the Bible (Romans 16:16). We do not discriminate against anyone, for we know that all people need Christ and as his followers we aim to help people both see Him and know Him through our actions (John 13:34-35).
We are a people who have served others in the past, are serving people now, and will continue to serve others as we are blessed in the future!
